Museum Exhibits

Our museum is a continual work in progress, both the building itself and the exhibits. We strive to emphasize our PRR heritage in our exhibits and in our collections, and we strive to present stories and artifacts that are different than other nearby railroad museums. We have created three large displays thus far over the past two years: the Maintenance of Way exhibit that describes how track is built, inspected and maintained; the Steam exhibit that describes the basics of how steam engines work, different kinds of steam locomotives and associated equipment, and photos of the actual steam locomotives that were used along the Frederick Secondary over the course of time—until the last steam engine ran in 1948; and the Glade Valley Milling Company exhibit that describes the three major businesses that grew up alongside the railroad here in Walkersville. Plans for 2025 include more detailed information on our locomotives and rolling stock and a display about Hurricane Agnes in 1972 that devastated not only the Frederick Secondary, but the entire Pennsylvania Railroad system throughout the northeast U.S..

More information is on the way! New stories and updates will be arriving shortly — stay tuned!
