Locomotives

Walkersville Southern specializes in collecting “critters”, small light-duty or industrial switching locomotives that weigh less than 100 tons and usually much less than that. We have about a dozen of them in our collection right now, the heaviest being a 65-ton GE locomotive, and the lightest being a GE 25-tonner. These smaller, lighter and less costly locomotives were built to handle light rail and tight curves common to industrial railroads. Most of our locomotives were built in the 1930s and 1940s; the oldest is a 1939 Davenport, and the newest is a 1960 Plymouth. We especially value the Pennsylvania locomotives in our collection that speak to our PRR heritage.
